Remarkably Proficient Active Desktop Speakers

FiiO has entered into the territory of powered speakers with its all-new SP3. The FiiO SP3s are powered monitors, also known as active monitors, that offer pristine audio reproduction. It incorporates built-in amplifiers, eliminating the necessity for an external power source or separate amplifier unit. This integrated design has many advantages, making SP3s the most desirable option for audio applications and music listening.

Features a 3.5-inch Carbon Fiber Midwoofer

The FiiO SP3 employs a 3.5-inch carbon fibre mid-woofer. In terms of dynamics, creating a bigger soundstage, and other sonic characteristics, these larger woofers have an inherent advantage over smaller woofers. This 3.5-inch carbon fibre mid-woofer expresses the grandeur of the audio even at louder volumes, whether you're watching movies or listening to music. The FiiO SP3's carbon fibres are each only 0.007mm thick, or about a hair's thickness. By preventing wrinkles in the diaphragm and making it stronger and more resistant to cracking after repeated driver movement and use, the braiding of these fibres results in improved sound quality.

1-inch Silk Tweeter For Hi-Fidelity Treble Resolution

The tweeter frequently plays a "key" role in reproducing fine musical detail, instrumental overtones, and overall treble resolution in an active desktop speaker. The FiiO SP3 uses a 1-inch tweeter with a maximum frequency of 35 kHz. The tweeter's KSV copper-clad aluminium voice coil allows ultra-high frequencies to remain uncompressed even at high volumes. This design aspect provides a high-resolution treble response with a natural timbre and improves treble reproduction even when listening off-axis. You can hear even the most minute vibrations produced by instruments with the SP3.

Soft Tweeter Dome Wave-Absorbing Structure

The development team considered multiple aspects when choosing the material of the tweeter for the FiiO SP3. The softness of the internal part of the silk tweeter also acts as a soundwave absorbent, effectively absorbing unwanted sound waves behind the driver and further enhancing the sound output by the tweeter. The FiiO SP3 features a sizable empty cavity rear of the tweeter magnet, allowing the tweeter to play frequencies as low as an astonishing 800Hz. Even when the tweeter is playing frequencies above 20kHz, the rear cavity and overall design of the tweeter allow for unwanted soundwaves to escape and reduce resonances generated by tweeter movement. The result is a silky smooth yet well-extended treble.

Asymmetrical Internal and External Magnetic Circuit Systems

The development team at FiiO designed an asymmetrical internal and external magnetic circuits system to enable the 3.5-inch carbon fibre mid-woofer to "truly" produce powerful bass enabling the SP3 to operate at its peak performance. An auxiliary magnet was added to the centre of the SP3's internals to create an inner and outer magnetic circuit. This architecture strengthens the magnetic field produced and permits a magnetic flux of up to 1.2 Tesla. This design propels the driver and creates the dynamic sound of the SP3. Furthermore, non-linear distortion is reduced across all frequencies thanks to the asymmetrical internal and external magnetic circuit systems, so the good sound is always available regardless of the music being listened to.

Rapid Transient Response With Reduced Non-Linear Distortion

Carbon fibre has the ideal characteristics for a speaker driver because it is lightweight, extremely rigid, and strong. While carbon fibre's high strength and rigidity reduce non-linear distortion by minimising unwanted secondary vibrations when the driver is moving to produce sound. Its lightweight enables the woofer to have a quick transient response. The woofer's carbon fibre construction accurately reproduces the sound and enhances the high-fidelity listening experience.

Tuned To Deliver Excellent Frequency Response

The FiiO SP3s frequency response curve is essentially a straight line in the test and is smooth with balanced bass, mids, and treble. It is important to note that the effective bass extension can go as low as 65Hz, practically unheard of for its class. The FiiO SP3s sound stimulates every auditory system nerve when you watch films or listen to ultra-low-frequency music. Thanks to the 1-inch tweeter unit, there is no drop in the 10k–20kHz frequency band in the high-frequency region, maintaining the curve's smoothness and straightness and accurately reproducing what a HiFi speaker should sound like.

Directional Acoustic Waveguides Eliminates Sound Wave Loss

The FiiO SP3 was specifically tuned and created for outstanding sound quality, ensuring that the sound waves reach the listener in the best possible way. You don't have to be listening at a specific position because the tweeter is precisely angled to virtually eliminate sound wave loss for listeners at an off-axis range between 0 and 15°, making it easier to place the speakers where you want them. Additionally, the horizontal striped pattern in front of the tweeter is intended to improve the soundstage perception and give the impression that you are actually in a large concert hall by allowing the tweeter's sound waves to diffuse more effectively throughout the space.

Double-Diffused S-Shaped Porting Tube For Accurate Bass Response

The bass woofer and the porting tube in a ported speaker reproduce the resulting bass frequencies. The "porting tube" further improves bass extension allowing quick bass transients and overall impactful bass quality. FiiO engineers finally developed the innovative "double-diffused S-shaped porting tube", which specifically allows the SP3 to produce high-quality sound. This porting tube design features a much smaller cross-section than typical porting tubes, allowing the SP3 to remain small in volume. FiiO engineers carefully created the "S" shape of the "porting tube" to maximise smooth airflow and minimise distortion. Finally, damping at the inlet and outlet of the tube reduces audible noise resulting in a phenomenal bass response.

Exclusive Silicone Stand With 7-Degree Elevation

As standard practice in professional audio and to ensure a better near-field listening experience, the tweeter should be at ear level, and the tweeter axis should be within 15 degrees of the ear. Thus, FiiO specifically developed an exclusive stand with a 7-degree elevation angle for the SP3. FiiO performed listening tests with 5-15° and 7-15° stands with the listener 1 to 1.2 metres away from the speaker. Through these tests, engineers at FiiO felt that a stand with a 7-degree elevation angle would provide the most accurate sound for near-field listeners. Furthermore, it is made of silicone, which acts as a shock absorber by being a soft surface between the SP3 and the desk, reducing sound impurities due to vibrations when the speaker is producing sound.

FiiO has provided two inputs RCA and 3.5mm. You can use these to connect to your music sources. It can be connected to devices with analogue output, such as cell phones, tablets, computers and players.

FiiO has recommended to use the 7-degree elevation stand that provides a 7-degree elevation angle that provides the most accurate sound for near-field listening.

You can use the 0-degree pads and angle them so that the speakers are facing you and the tweeters are at ear level.

First and the most important thing is that the tweeter of the speakers should be at ear level. Also, Make sure that the distance between the two speakers and the place where you will be listening is equidistant. Ideally, it should form an equilateral triangle.

The SP3 comes with two amplifier chips TPA3118. The input sensitivity is 120mV@70Hz. So ordinary cell phones and computers can meet the demand with their 3.5mm outputs.

Newly purchased speakers are brand-new products. Because they are not used, you will feel that the sound is obviously dry, cold and hard with harsh treble and relatively weak bass. However, after burn-in, the sound will be clearly enhanced with rich audio details, lush vocals, crisp treble and robust bass. Whether the SP3 needs to be burned in is subject to individuals. If you prefer cold and hard sounds, the original timbre will make you comfortable, so it is unnecessary to burn in. But if you prefer warm and natural sounds, it is suggested to burn in.
